Associate Professor Alireza Khaligh (ECE/ISR) gave a keynote talk at the 2016 IEEE Transportation Electrification Conference and Expo (ITEC), in Dearborn, Mich., on June 28. ITEC is the flagship conference of IEEE in transportation electrification.

Khaligh spoke on ?Plug-In Charging: Challenges, Opportunities, and Directions.? He outlined new opportunities and directions for plug-in charging of electrified drivetrain vehicles. His talk contoured new architectures for highly efficient integrated low-power and high-power chargers with capability of vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and grid-to-vehicle (G2V) services.

Khaligh?s research focuses on investigation, modeling, simulation, design, and development of power electronics and motor drive interfaces for a variety of applications. These include transportation electrification systems (i.e. electric, hybrid electric, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, more electric aircrafts, electric ships as well as off-road and heavy duty vehicles), wind energy conversion systems, solar energy conversion systems, energy harvesting systems (electromagnetic, piezoelectric, and electrostatic) and microrobots. He served as General Chair of the ITEC conference in 2013.

ITEC helps industry in the transition from conventional vehicles to advanced electric vehicles. The conference is focused on components, systems, standards, and grid interface technologies, related to efficient power conversion for all types of electrified transportation, including electric vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles, and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (EVs, HEVs, and PHEVs) as well as heavy-duty, rail, and off-road vehicles and airplanes and ships.
