Associate Professor Mark Austin (CEE/ISR) has won the 2012 ISR Outstanding Faculty Award.

Austin is widely recognized as a leader in systems engineering through his publications, educational accomplishments, and by other leaders at international systems engineering conferences. He has made fundamental research contributions to systems engineering in model-based systems engineering and applications to diverse engineering areas such as energy efficient buildings, transportation and cyber-physical systems. Austin ensures the University of Maryland and ISR ?brand? of systems engineering is world renowned for its intellectual rigor and applicability.

Austin also was honored for his work with students in ISR?s Master of Science in Systems Engineering program, and with students who have matriculated to the Ph.D. program in Civil Systems. He helps them turn their ideas and projects into publishable papers, and he has been very active in his supervision of students doing cooperative research at NIST on MBSE procedures for behavior modeling and design of cyber-physical systems.
