Mechanical Engineering Ph.D. student Alex Weissman has received an ARRA Fellowship from the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST). At NIST he will be working with Vijay Srinivasan and Ram Sriam in sustainable manufacturing during his graduate studies. Weissman is advised by Professor S.K. Gupta (ME).

The fellowship is funded through the NIST American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Measurement Science and Engineering Fellowship Program (NIST ARRA Fellowship Program). The program is managed by the University of Maryland's Daniel Lathrop, director of the Institute for Research in Electronics and Applied Physics; and Robert Briber, chair of the Materials Science and Engineering Department.

The nationwide program is highly competitive and provides fellowship opportunities for researchers in measurement science and engineering at undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral levels.
