Ph.D. alumnus Wade Trappe has been appointed Associate Director of the Wireless Information Network Laboratory (WINLAB) at Rutgers University. Trappe has served as assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering at Rutgers since 2002, and was recently named associate professor with tenure in May 2007.

WINLAB is an industry-university cooperative research center focused on advancing the development of wireless networking technology by combining the resources of government, industry and academia. The center has completed over 15 years of research on wireless data networks, and has made a number of important technical contributions to mobile computing, high speed modem design, radio resource management, and network architectures and protocols.

Trappe received his M.S. in 1999 and his Ph.D. in 2002 while studying in the University of Maryland's ECE Department, the Institute for Systems Research (ISR), and the Applied Mathematics and Scientific Computation Program. He was advised by Professor K. J. Ray Liu (ECE/ISR).

Trappe's research focuses primarily on wireless security, ad hoc and sensor network security, and multimedia security. He co-authored a book on multimedia forensics with Dr. Liu, Associate Professor Min Wu, and alumna Jane Wang titled ?Multimedia Fingerprinting Forensics for Traitor Tracing."
