On Dec. 3, Professor Ray Adomaitis?s (ChBE/ISR) capstone course ENES 489P "Hands-On Systems Engineering Projects" held its end-of-the-semester Undergraduate Systems Engineering Design Conference. Eight teams of undergraduate students from multiple engineering disciplines presented the results of their model-based systems engineering design projects.
The presentations and projects were judged by a distinguished panel of industry professionals:
Aastha Verma, Chief Product Officer; Catalist LLC (ISR alumna, MSSE 2003, BS EE 1997) Don York, Technical Fellow, Senior Systems Engineer; TASC, an Engility company Jennifer Logsdon, Director Systems Engineering, Textron Systems Unmanned Systems Bob Hoffman, Senior Director, Technical Leadership & Innovation, Metron Aviation (ISR alumnus, Math Ph.D. 1997)
In addition, Jonathan Grier, Principal, Grier Forensics; and Gregg Shimp, VP Engineering, Textron Systems Unmanned Systems also participated in the event.
The top three student teams were awarded prizes sponsored by Textron Systems. The winners were:
First place: Development of a mechanical horse for hippotherapy, by Kristina Dziki, Joshua Lafond, Nathan Roe and Eric Weiss Second Place: Biomedical device and sotware for eye-tracking to differentiate between simple headaches and strokes; can also be used for concussion assessment, by Christoffer Andersen, Bridgette Lappe and Jeremy Noller Third place: Solar-powered water filtration system for developing countries, including quality sensors to assess the water prior to filtration, by Julian Glover, Zachary Hipps Andrew Morin and Devan Udseth
In addition, the judges awarded an honorable mention to Malick Diarra, Joshua Grimes, Solen Kebede, Shamith Payagala and Thimira Payagala for their work on Solar-powered wireless charging system incorporating solar cells on roads, and induction coils under the road surface and on-board the cars.
