Congratulations to ISR alum Hamid Jafarkhani, who has been named an IEEE Fellow "for contributions to space-time coding." Jafarkhani is a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of California, Irvine. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 1997 and was advised by Clark School of Engineering Dean Nariman Farvardin (ECE/ISR). Jafarkhani and co-author Yin Zhu also won the 2006 IEEE Marconi Prize Paper Award in Wireless Communications for their paper, "Differential Modulation Based on Quasi-Orthogonal Codes." This annual award is given for the best original paper on wireless communications published in the IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications in the previous calendar year.
