The website livescience.com has a nice story about alumna Carole Teolis (1994 EE Ph.D.), the chief technology officer and chair of TRX Systems.

The story focuses on TRX?s development of NEON, an indoor navigation technology that can locate, monitor and track people inside buildings where GPS is not available, and in outdoor urban areas where GPS is often unreliable. NEON grew out of earlier systems Teolis and Techno-Sciences Inc. developed after 9-11 to track and safeguard firefighters inside burning buildings.

At Maryland, Teolis was advised by Professor John Baras (ECE/ISR).
