Falkenberg was a research director at ECOlogic Corp. He earned an M.S. in Computer Science at the University of Maryland in 1995. His advisor was ISR Associate Professor Mark Austin.

The family was en route to Australia, where Leslie?a professor of public policy at Georgetown University?was to be a visiting fellow for two months at Australian National University in Canberra.
