Three papers by NEXTOR authors won Best Paper Awards at the Air Traffic Management (ATM) R&D seminar in Baltimore this summer. Professor Michael Ball (Robert H. Smith School of Business/ISR) won the award in the Traffic Flow Optimization category for "Response Mechanisms for Dynamic Air Traffic Flow Management." His co-authors were Avijit Mukherjee (UC Berkeley), Associate Professor David Lovell (CEE/ISR), and ISR Visiting Scientist Robert Hoffman of Metron Aviation, Inc.

Dr. Lovell won the Metrics and Performance Management category award for "Modeling Delays and Cancellation Probabilities to Support Strategic Simulations." His co-authors were Professor Ball and Avijit Mukherjee, plus Amedeo Odoni and Gregory Zerbib of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Another NEXTOR participant, Tatjana Bolic of the University of California at Berkeley, shared the award in the Human Factors category for the paper, "User Request Evaluation Tool (URET) Adoption and Adaptation; Three Center Case Study." Her co-author was Mark Hansen of U.C. Berkeley.

NEXTOR is the National Center of Excellence for Aviation Operations Research co-directed by Professor Michael Ball (Robert H. Smith School of Business/ISR).
