Professor Tony Ephremides (ECE/ISR) participated in the Distinguished Lecture Tour of the IEEE Communications Society this month and delivered lectures on "Cooperation at the Network Level" in Oulu, Finland, Lisbon, Portugal, and Athens, Greece.

The Communications Society's distinguished lecturers program includes a select small group of researchers from around the world who receive invitations from local chapters of the Society to visit them and lecture on the most recent and advanced topics of their research. Dr. Ephremides has participated in this type of tour before, both in the United States and abroad. In April he lectured at the Baltimore chapter.

In this European tour Ephremides gave the lecture in Oulu, in Lisbon, and in Athens. In Oulu he also gave additional lectures on wireless networking as part of the bilateral cooperation agreement between the University of Oulu and the University of Maryland. In Greece he visited the Computer Science Institute of Crete (where there is another bilateral agreement of collaboration) to work with Professor Traganitis and his students on common projects.

Ephremides is the Cynthia Kim Eminent Professor of Information Technology in the A. James Clark School of Engineering.
