ISR-affiliated Professor Mark Shayman (ECE) has been appointed Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs in the Clark School of Engineering. Shayman came to the University of Maryland in 1986 as an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering and has been a successful educator, mentor and researcher. He served as ISR's associate director for education and was director of the M.S. in Systems Engineering program. He also chaired committees in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and ISR.

His current research interests and activities are in communication network security, wireless networks and sensor networks. He received the National Science Foundation Presidential Young Investigator Award, the George Corcoran Award for Contributions to Electrical Engineering Education, and the Outstanding Professor Award from electrical engineering graduate students. In addition, he was an associate editor for the IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control.

In his new position, Shayman will help the Clark School develop and implement its strategic plan, streamline faculty- and graduate student-related activities and processes and launch new initiatives.
